Can I Run MicroBase Professional Under Mac OS X?

Yes, you likely can. MicroBase Professional is a conventional Win32 program which can be run under Mac OS X/macOS by utilizing a Windows VM Manager. There are a number of VM Managers available for this purpose such as VirtualBox, Parallels Desktop, VMWare, Boot Camp, and so on.

DSS has tested MicroBase Professional in a Windows Virtual Machine via Parallels v8 under Mac OS X Snow Leopard. Several of the configurations we have tested are:

  • Mac OS X Snow Leopard v10.6 - Windows 2K SP4
  • Mac OS X Snow Leopard v10.6 - Windows XP SP3
  • Mac OS X Snow Leopard v10.6 - Windows Vista SP2
  • Mac OS X Snow Leopard v10.6 - Windows 7 SP1
  • Mac OS X Snow Leopard v10.6 - Windows 8.1

DSS has also tested MicroBase Professional in a Windows Virtual Machine via VirtualBox v5.1 under Mac OS X El Capitan. Several of the configurations we have tested are:

  • Mac OS X El Capitan v10.11 - Windows XP SP3
  • Mac OS X El Capitan v10.11 - Windows Vista SP2
  • Mac OS X El Capitan v10.11 - Windows 7 SP1
  • Mac OS X El Capitan v10.11 - Windows 8.1
  • Mac OS X El Capitan v10.11 - Windows 10

DSS has also tested MicroBase Professional in a Windows Virtual Machine via VirtualBox v5.1 under macOS Sierra. Several of the configurations we have tested are:

  • Mac OS X Sierra v10.12 - Windows XP SP3
  • Mac OS X Sierra v10.12 - Windows Vista SP2
  • Mac OS X Sierra v10.12 - Windows 7 SP1
  • Mac OS X Sierra v10.12 - Windows 8.1
  • Mac OS X Sierra v10.12 - Windows 10

  What Do I Need To Run MicroBase Professional In This Way?

You will need the following items:

  • Mac PC with Mac OS X or macOS installed and an available USB Port.
  • VM Manager such as VirtualBox or Parallels Desktop.
  • Microsoft Windows (WinXP or Win7 recommended).
  • MicroBase Professional v2.11 or higher.
  • DSS recommended USB to RS-232 adapter.

  How Do I Set Up My Mac To Do This?

The very basic steps to set up your Mac machine to run MicroBase Professional are:

  • Start your computer running Mac OS X or macOS.
  • Install the VM Manager of your choice.
  • Create a new Virtual Machine and install Windows.
  • Start the new Windows Virtual Machine and install MicroBase Professional as described here.
  • Install USB to RS-232 Serial Port Adapter as described here.
