FAQ: MicroVib II - Analyzer Functional Check (And Quick Fix)

 

 

Use the steps below to quickly determine if your MicroVib II is working properly. Items needed for the functional check:

  • MicroVib II P/N 1300
  • Signal Simulator P/N 1117-2

  1. Perform A Functional Check Of The MicroVib II Using DSS Signal Simulator P/N 1117-2

Note: The functional check described below does not meet the requirements for yearly calibration against a traceable standard.
  1. Disconnect the MicroVib II from any Cables, Mux Box, etc.
  2. Start the MicroVib II, then select Mode then Prop/Rotor Balance, then Start Analysis.
  3. Press the Task menu item, select an empty task (one containing the number zero in parentheses "(0)"), then press Start Analysis.
  4. Plug the Signal Simulator P/N 1117-2 into the MicroVib II connector, and check the following displayed items:
    • Tach Speed Limits: 1919.5 - 1920.5 RPM (31.99 - 32.01 Hz).
    • Vibration Limits: .765 - .840 IN/S PK.
    • Phase Limits: 271.9 - 273.5 Degrees.

If the MicroVib II displays the correct vibration units (for example IN/S PK) and the displayed numerical values meet the limits shown above, then the unit is working properly and can be returned to service.

If the MicroVib II displays the correct units, and the displayed numerical values are slightly out of limits, then the unit is working properly, but may be in need of Factory Calibration.


H 2. MicroVib II Functional Check Failed - Restore Factory Defaults

If your MicroVib II displays the wrong units, or if the numerical values are significantly out of limits described in Section #1, then Restore Factory Defaults and repeat the test:

  1. Power Up the MicroVib II
  2. Select Mode then Control Panel.
  3. Press Restore Factory Defaults, then press Restore Input Defaults.
  4. Press Done, Done, Start Analysis.
  5. Repeat Section #1 and see if the MicroVib II passes the Functional Check.

  3. MicroVib II Functional Check Failed After Restore Factory Defaults - Cold Boot

If your MicroVib II still fails the Functional Check after you Restore Factory Defaults, then perform a Cold Boot and repeat the test:

  1. Shut the MicroVib II down.
  2. Hold the MicroVib II ON/OFF key down for a minimum of 6 seconds, then release.
  3. When the MicroVib II starts, it will Restore Factory Defaults and load a new, empty Default History File.
  4. Repeat Section #1 and see if the MicroVib II passes the Functional Check.

Note: Performing a Cold Boot Restores Factory Defaults and replaces the currently loaded History File with default.hst. If your MicroVib II behaves normally only after a Cold Boot, your previously loaded History file may contain inappropriate settings or be damaged/corrupted. To insure against the old History file being reloaded in the future, it should be deleted manually.


  4. MicroVib II Functional Check Failed After Cold Boot - Send To Repair

If your MicroVib II fails the Functional Check after a Cold Boot, then the unit may have a hardware failure and should not be used until it has been returned to DSS for repair. For information about having equipment repaired, click here.
